Course Description
It can be daunting to choose the right literature for your performing groups. Is it educational? Is it fun? Do I have the tools to teach it successfully? Discover the ways to choose and prepare your literature for differing levels of ensembles. Lewis goes into depth on the criteria to use when choosing the music, how to prepare the music, and the rehearsal techniques to make the literature preparation successful from day one in the learning process.
About the Presenter
Katie Lewis is in her fifteenth year as the Director of Bands at Maus MS (Frisco ISD), where she was selected as Teacher of the Year in 2022. The band has earned UIL Sweepstakes awards and Best in Class awards at festivals. Lewis has presented at music conferences and co-authored articles, and she co-hosts a podcast entitled “Band BFFs” about literature selection and rehearsal strategies on popular band pieces. Lewis is a member of TMEA, TBA, PBM, TMAA, and ASBDA. She serves as the Region 24 Secretary and Area B Mentor Network Coordinator. She also serves as the TBA Region 24 Representative.
